Terms and Conditions

The terms that apply when you use this website and when you book services with Solas Psychology.

Effective October 7, 2026  ·  Last updated October 7, 2026

Agreement to These Terms

These Terms and Conditions apply to your use of the Solas Psychology website (the “site”), operated by Solas Psychology, the practice of Alyssa Smyth, PhD, in Poulsbo, Washington (“Solas Psychology,” “we,” “us”). By using the site you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

If you become a client, you’ll also sign an informed consent agreement and receive our Notice of Privacy Practices. Those documents govern your treatment, and where they conflict with these terms, they control. Provider ADHD training for primary care teams is governed by a separate written agreement with the organization.

Information Only, Not Treatment

Everything on this site, including service descriptions, articles and blog posts, is general educational information. It isn’t psychological, medical or legal advice, and it isn’t a substitute for an evaluation by a qualified professional who knows your situation.

Using the site, submitting the contact form, sending an email, leaving a voicemail or booking an initial appointment does not create a psychologist–client relationship. That relationship begins only after an initial appointment, once we’ve both agreed to work together and you’ve signed the informed consent agreement. Until then, we have no duty to monitor your messages or act on what they contain.

Not for Emergencies

Solas Psychology does not provide crisis services

If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself or someone else, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. You can call or text 988 any time for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Active-duty service members and veterans can dial 988 and press 1 for the Veterans Crisis Line.

Our phone, email, contact form and website are not monitored around the clock. Don’t use them to report an emergency.

Who We Can Serve

  • Adults only. Clinical services are for people 18 and older.
  • In-person sessions take place at our office in Poulsbo, Washington.
  • Telehealth is available only when you are physically located in Washington or a PSYPACT participating state at the time of each session. Licensing rules follow where you are during the session, not where you live.

You agree to tell us your physical location at the start of every telehealth session and to let us know ahead of time if you’ll be traveling. If you’ll be somewhere we can’t legally provide services, we may need to reschedule. Normal cancellation terms apply when a session can’t go ahead because of your location and we weren’t told in time.

We may decline to provide services, or refer you elsewhere, when another provider or level of care would serve you better.

Appointments, Cancellations and Late Arrivals

New clients start with a paid initial appointment to review background, clarify goals and decide whether our services fit. There’s no obligation to continue after it.

Cancellation and rescheduling

Your appointment time is reserved for you. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours in advance to avoid being charged. Weekend hours don’t count toward the 48 hours.

  • A Monday 10:00 AM appointment must be cancelled by the previous Thursday at 10:00 AM.
  • A Friday 10:00 AM appointment must be cancelled by the preceding Wednesday at 10:00 AM.

Late cancellations (under 48 hours) and missed appointments are charged the full session fee. Insurance doesn’t pay for missed sessions, so this fee is your responsibility.

Late arrivals

If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, the session may be treated as a missed appointment and charged the full fee. Sessions that start late still end at the scheduled time. The full policy is on our Policies and Procedures page.

Fees and Payment

Solas Psychology is primarily a private-pay practice. Current rates are listed on our Services pages and confirmed in writing before your first appointment. We’ll give you at least 30 days’ written notice before any fee change.

  • Private-pay psychotherapy and all psychological and diagnostic assessments, including adult ADHD assessments, are scheduled directly with the practice and are not billed to insurance.
  • Payment is due at the time of service unless we’ve agreed otherwise in writing. Assessment fees may be collected in stages, as set out in your assessment agreement.
  • Insurance-based psychotherapy is available in limited numbers for clients with Aetna through Headway. Those sessions are booked through Headway, which handles billing and benefit verification under its own terms. You’re responsible for any copay, coinsurance or deductible your plan assigns.

If you’d like to seek out-of-network reimbursement, ask us for a superbill. We can’t guarantee what your plan will reimburse.

Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate

Under the federal No Surprises Act, health care providers must give patients who don’t have insurance, or who aren’t using insurance, an estimate of the bill for items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment and hospital fees.
  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.

About Assessments and Outcomes

An adult ADHD assessment is a professional evaluation. Its findings reflect Dr. Smyth’s independent clinical judgment based on the interview, testing and records available. We can’t promise any particular result, including a specific diagnosis, eligibility for workplace or academic accommodations, or that another provider will prescribe medication.

Psychologists in Washington do not prescribe medication. With your written permission, we can share results with your physician or prescriber.

Psychotherapy takes effort and can be uncomfortable at times. Results vary from person to person, and no outcome is guaranteed. Risks and benefits are reviewed with you during informed consent.

Communication With the Practice

We use phone, email and text for scheduling and logistics. Ordinary email and texts aren’t encrypted, so please don’t send detailed clinical information that way or through the contact form. Clinical communication happens in session or through the secure client portal. We respond during business hours, usually within one to two business days.

By contacting us by email, text or the contact form, you agree that we may reply the same way about scheduling. You can ask us to use a different method at any time. How we handle that information is described in our Privacy Policy.

Acceptable Use of the Site

You agree not to:

  • Use the site for anything unlawful, or to harass, threaten or impersonate anyone
  • Try to gain unauthorized access to the site, its hosting or any connected system
  • Upload or send malware, spam the contact form, or interfere with the site’s operation
  • Scrape or copy site content in bulk with automated tools, or use it to train AI models, without our written permission

Intellectual Property

The site’s text, articles, design, photographs, the Solas Psychology name and the logo belong to Solas Psychology or its licensors and are protected by copyright and trademark law. You may view and print pages for your own personal, non-commercial use and share a link to any page. Anything else, including republishing articles, requires our written permission.

Third-Party Sites and Services

The site links to outside services such as Headway, the PSYPACT Commission and crisis lines. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. Your use of a third-party service is governed by that provider’s terms.

Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

We work to keep the site accurate and current, but it’s provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, about the site, including that it will be error-free, uninterrupted or free of harmful components.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Solas Psychology and Dr. Smyth are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential or special damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site or its content. Nothing in these terms limits any professional duty owed to clients, any liability that can’t be limited under Washington law, or any consumer rights that can’t be waived.

You agree to indemnify Solas Psychology against claims and costs arising from your misuse of the site or your violation of these terms.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute about the site or these terms will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Kitsap County, Washington, and you consent to their jurisdiction.

Psychologists in Washington are licensed and regulated by the Washington State Department of Health, Examining Board of Psychology. You may contact the Department of Health with a complaint about any licensed provider.

Accessibility

We want the site to be usable by everyone and build it to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. If any part of the site is hard to use with your device or assistive technology, email contact@solaspsych.com or call (206) 900-9542 and we’ll get you the information another way.

Changes and General Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when they last changed, and continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our not enforcing a provision isn’t a waiver of it. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the complete agreement between you and us about use of the site.
