Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect in the first therapy session?
The first session is typically an opportunity for the therapist and client to get to know each other and discuss the reasons for seeking therapy. The therapist will explore the client’s goals, history, and what they hope to gain from the work together. Clients are encouraged to ask any questions and are never pressured to share more than they feel comfortable with.
How long are sessions, and how often will we meet?
Individual therapy sessions typically last 45 minutes, with an option to choose 60-minute sessions. Most clients begin with weekly sessions, though the frequency can be adjusted based on the client’s needs, goals, and scheduling availability.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Secure telehealth sessions are available for clients who prefer the convenience and privacy of online therapy. In-person sessions may also be offered depending on location and scheduling.
What is psychological assessment, and do I need it?
Psychological assessment is a structured evaluation used to better understand cognitive, emotional, or behavioral functioning. People often seek assessments for concerns such as ADHD, mood or anxiety symptoms, or to gain diagnostic clarity. Assessments can also provide formal documentation for school, work, or treatment planning.
How does the assessment process work?
The process typically begins with an intake session to review concerns and goals. Testing appointments are then scheduled according to the client’s needs. Once all data is collected, clients receive a written report and a feedback session to review findings and recommendations.
Do you take insurance?
Solas Psychology is an out-of-network provider and does not bill insurance directly. However, clients can be provided with a superbill (a detailed receipt) to submit to their insurance company for possible reimbursement. It is recommended that clients verify their out-of-network mental health benefits with their insurance provider.
How much do sessions and assessments cost?
Fees vary depending on the type of service. Individual therapy sessions, assessments, and consultation services are billed at different rates. Psychological assessments are billed as a package and may require a non-refundable deposit to secure the initial appointment. Clients are encouraged to contact the office for detailed fee information or questions.
What if I’m not sure if this is the right fit?
Finding the right therapist is important. A 15-minute consultation is available for a $25 fee to briefly discuss client needs and determine if the therapist’s services are a good match. If another provider would be a better fit, referrals can be provided.
